If you have your own website here’s why you should stop using LinkTree!

  1. Every person who clicks on your Instagram LinkTree is initially directed to the linktr.ee site, not yours. This means you are helping LinkTree’s SEO and not your own. SEO is what helps your business rank on Google!

  2. You have to pay extra for customisation. If you host your own link page on Squarepage you have full creative control. Keep your branding consistent for no extra cost!

If you’re ready to add your own SEO friendly on-brand link page (in under 5 minutes) to Squarespace follow the five easy steps below!

Step 1: Open Squarespace and click on the ‘Pages’ tab and navigate down to the ‘Not Linked’ pages. Click  + to add a new page.

Step 2:  After naming your new links page click ‘Edit’ to begin editing the blank page. Select ‘Add a Section’ and then add a blank section from the menu.

Step 3: Start adding your spacers. Spacers allow us to create columns to add our content to. I use 5 spacers to create a central collum where I will add any content. You can watch the video below for a more detailed tutorial.

Step 4: Add any image you’d like to the central column. I’ve chosen to use a free stock photo but you can also add videos or even create a custom gif. New Squarespace features allow you to choose the shape of your image frame, feel free to get creative!

Step 5: Add each of your link titles below the main image e.g ‘Website’ ‘Etsy Shop’. Make sure to centre your text and then click the link (chain) icon to add your links. These are the web addresses people will be directed to when they use your link page.

Bonus step!

After creating and saving your Link page enter the page settings from the left-handside menu. Click on ‘SEO’ and then toggle on ‘Hide Page from Search Results'. Doing this means your Link page won’t be found via search engines like Google. I do this as my link page is only for use in Instagram posts etc, I don’t want clients to accidentally access it via a search engine.
